Open Positions

Before applying, please read “Training & Mentorship” to understand our lab culture and expectations.

1) Ph.D. student (rotation required)

We anticipate recruiting at least two Ph.D. students each year through official graduate programs affiliated with the National Institute of Biological Sciences, Beijing (NIBS), including:

  • Peking University–Tsinghua University–National Institute of Biological Sciences Joint Graduate Program (PTN);

  • Tsinghua Institute of Multidisciplinary Biomedical Research, Tsinghua University (TIMBR);

  • Peking Union Medical College (PUMC).

Interested students are welcome to contact the PI early. Formal rotations are typically arranged after program admission. In addition, we may host final-year undergraduate thesis projects for 4th-year students who have accepted an offer from NIBS and will join in the fall.

We are looking for trainees who want to develop scientific independence early, i.e., someone eager to propose ideas, design key experiments, iterate quickly based on data, and take responsibility for building a first-author story.

2) Postdoctoral fellow

We welcome inquiries from postdoctoral candidates who aim to build an ambitious, rigorous in vivo story and grow toward scientific independence. We are particularly interested in candidates with strengths in one or more of the following:

  • Protein biochemistry and extracellular matrix biology (protein purification, binding, and functional assays, quantitative biochemistry);

  • Advanced imaging, including intravital microscopy and quantitative analysis;

  • Bioinformatics/computational analysis, including in-depth analysis of scRNA-seq, spatial transcriptomics, and large human clinical cohorts.

3) Research technician

We have opening for a highly motivated research technician who seeks intensive training and is considering a future Ph.D. trajectory. The ideal candidate is reliable, hands-on, and eager to learn, with a strong sense of ownership and consistency.

Typical responsibilities may include:

  • Mouse colony management and basic in vivo procedures;

  • Tissue processing, flow cytometry, immunostaining, and imaging;

  • Cell-based assays with primary cells (including culture as needed);

  • Experimental organization, data management, and rigorous record-keeping.

How to apply

Please email the PI (shenbo@nibs.ac.cn) with:

( 1 ) a CV;

( 2 ) a brief statement describing your interests, relevant experience, and what you hope to learn;

( 3 ) contact information for 2 references (optional for rotation inquiries)
